As we reported on Cigar Coop, Andre Farkas has brought back the Viaje Roman Candle for 2014. This cigar was released once before (back in 2012) and is the longest cigar released to date. The cigar is a massive 9 x 50 presidents-sized vitola that comes wrapped in tissue paper.

Farkas has been close to the vest with the blend of this one. While I think there are parallels with the 2012 and 2014 editions, I found the Viaje Roman Candle 2014 to be a better overall cigar experience. The drawback I heard with the Roman Candle 2012 was it lacked complexity and stayed the same for 2+ hours. With the Roman Candle 2014 it was almost the polar opposite.

Viaje Roman Candle 2014

I found this cigar to deliver notes of cedar, pepper, oak, natural tobacco, and coffee. There were plenty of transitions to keep me interested. This isn’t a power-house Viaje. I put it on the upper end of medium strength and medium-bodied.

The only drawback is that the cigar burned warm in the latter stages. This led to a harsher finish. Still, this cigar had a lot more positive than negative and even with a higher price, I’d still go for a fiver.
