This cigar was assessed in depth on Cigar Coop.

The Quesada Oktoberfest line made its debut three years ago at the 2011 IPCPR Trade Show. The concept was to he idea bring a cigar to the table. that can be paired with malt liquor (aka beer). It was originally introduced in two sizes. Since then, the Oktoberfest line has become an annual release and has grown to six vitolas and now one event only size. One thing I’ve found about the Oktoberfest is that with each year’s release, the cigars tell their own story. The 2014 releases continue to follow this pattern – such is the case with the 2014 releases and the Das Boot. Terence Reilly attributes the changes because each year uses a different vintage

The Das Boot was introduced in 2012 and has been a part of the annual release since then. I’ve probably paid the least attention to this size up until this year. I smoked a few of them this year and was real surprised how well this torpedo delivered. I got some of the classic notes common to many Oktoberfest releases like earth, chocolate, and pepper. The sweetness is the component that I find has varied between size and vintage. I’ve detected citrus in the Bavarian and honey in the Kaiser Ludwig back in 2012. With the Oktoberfest 2014 Das Boot, it was blackberry. This is a well balanced medium to full strength, medium to full-bodied cigar. I found the burn and draw to be excellent.

While I’m not sure a how this pairs with a malt beverage, I did find this to be a nice cigar. I still am partial to the Kaiser Ludwig, but this is a very nice addition – and I look forward to smoking the other sizes. This is worth a fiver.
