Matilde Renacer is the first brand by the legendary Jose Seijas’ new company (Matilide Cigars). The name Matilde brings back an old Dominican brand. The Renacer means “rebirth” which fits the theme of this first line. Seijas said: “It represents the rebirth of Matilde, an old Domincan brand, and my new stage in blending and manufacturing.”

The Matilde delivers notes of coffee, tangy sweetness, pepper, and earth. The coffee and earth notes dominate early on with the earth and pepper surfacing later. Normally tangy notes are harsh with a cigar, but not with the Renacer Robusto. This is a full bodied smoke countered with medium to full strength.

I did have a bit of a jagged and flaky burn with this, but the pluses outweighed the minuses. In an era where there are a lot of limited edition cigars hitting the market, we often forget about cigars that can be regular rotation and / or everyday smokes. The Matilde Renacer Robusto hits the mark and hits it well. The Robusto format works real well and makes this box worthy and the belle of the ball.
