We previewed this cigar on Cigar Coop last month.
Since 2008, Oliva has released a maduro cigar under the Serie V umbrella. This is an annual “one and done” release by Oliva. From year to year, there have been changes with the blend and size. For the fourth consecutive year, Oliva turns to the San Andres Maduro wrapper. For 2013, they introduce a new size, a double robusto.
Since Oliva moved to the San Andres wrapper, I have been less than impressed. However this 2013 version really came through. There was a nice milk chocolate flavor with notes of pepper, earth, cherry, and nut flavors. The notes were medium to full-bodied and it was countered with medium strength. Construction was excellent.
While the past two years were not beyond a “Try One”, this one really surprise. I have this one worthy of a box split.
