In 2013, word surfaced that the Quesadas were planning a cigar project to commemorate Manuel Quesada’s 40th anniversary in the business. It was shortly after the ProCigar festival when the details were officially announced on the Quesada 40th Anniversary line. As a part of this line, there is a Corona Clasica vitola that has an entirely different blend than the others. This cigar was also blended by Manuel himself. It is only being made available to shops that do a Quesada family event.
Quesada 40th Anniversary (Top), Quesada 40th Anniversary Corona Clasica Blend (Bottom)
This is a special cigar. Without a doubt it is the frontrunner for my best newly released cigar in 2014. The flavors have have a perfect mix of sweetness and spice, but it is the sweetness from this tobacco which is amazing – it provides the right amount of sweetness yet still tastes like a tobacco product. The sweet flavors combine natural tobacco, raw sugar cane, and some cherry. There is a wonderful black pepper and a subtle (yet not overpowering grass note. The strength and body start out medium to full and progress to full by the end of the cigar. Construction is excellent.
We define an Oasis level cigar as a cigar that one “Pursues relentlessly. Crawl Across a desert of broken glass to find and build a new humidor to store all the boxes”. The Quesada 40th Anniversary Corona Clasica earns the first Oasis rating from myself for a 2014 release.
