The Lou Rod was a new 2013 release by Lou Rodriguez Cigars at the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show. His company is a true vertically integrated cigar company as they grow their own tobacco, have their own factory, and handle their own distribution.

The company has four core lines, including three box-press lines and two maduros. The Lou Rod marked a big change as the Lou Rod was the first rounded 6 x 60 produced by the company. At Cigar Coop, we had the honor of being the first media outlet to release blend information, and also had an opportunity to do a pre-release review.

It was very clear that the company put a lot of focus on making a blend specifically for this larger ring gauge. In my opinion, this cigar hits on all cylinders. The cigar produces flavor of natural tobacco, coffee, cream, and toast. Seth’s Humidor made a comment that the cigar has a marshmallow sweetness to it and I agree. Both the strength and body start out medium for the first half. By the last third both attributes progress to medium to full.

The construction is unbelievable. This is as good a 6 x 60 as I have seen. The burn and draw are low maintenance and practically flawless. This might surprise even folks who shy away from big ring gauges.
