Stogie Santa mentioned this cigar on Episode 101, and it has been one recently assessed on Cigar Coop (as well as smoked by me).

This is a part of retailer Jim Robinson’s Leaf and Bean series. Today we look at another cigar in the line, the Leaf by Oscar Maduro. This is one of four Leaf by Oscar cigars (the others being a Connecticut, Corojo, and Sumatra). This cigar is made in Honduras by Oscar Valladares.

The packaging is the big story with this cigar. Each of the Leaf by Oscar cigars are encased in a tobacco leaf as opposed to cellophane. Here is a look at the packaging:

On top of the unique packaging, this was also a unique blend. I think the combination of Honduran binder and filler as opposed to the Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos that are seen with Ecuadorian Sumatra. The Leaf by Oscar Sumatra will deliver an interesting combination of milk chocolate, white pepper, and natural tobacco. There also is an interesting citrus and “dough” like component. The Sumatra sweetness was “different” with this cigar as it was a little more subtle (from the natural tobacco). The flavors are medium to full-bodied countered with medium strength. Construction was excellent.

Overall an excellent cigar and something different all around. I’d go for a box split.
