Background
The Davidoff Colorado Claro was originally released in 2002 in very limited quantities. It was re-released in 2009 and again last month. Four sizes are currently available and include; Double R (7 1/2 x 50), Special R (4 7/8 x 50), Special T (6 x 50), and the Short Perfecto (4 7/8 x 52). For this review, I am smoking the Special R (Robusto) from what we believe is the 2009 release (the box was covered in plume so that’s what we are going with). I cannot obtain much else about the blend so I am not going to waste any more of your time or mine. So let me grab a cup of coffee and get to burning this baby!

Review
Visually this cigar is stunning. First there is the reddish brown Colorado Claro wrapper which is silky and sexy. The cigar appears to have impeccable construction both visually and tacitly. It is adorned with the traditional white and gold Davidoff band and a second band which has Colorado Claro printed on it. The cigar has a rich tobacco scent with some earthy undertones.
After lighting this work of art, my first reaction is this is a bit stronger than many Davidoff’s I have had. There is a moderate amount of spice at the start. The flavor profile quickly settles into a nice mix of graham cracker, nuts, and a faint caramel sweetness that comes and goes. The sweetness is very enjoyable but does not quite make it to the forefront. The burn is razor sharp and the draw perfect. The ash is firm and a solid (almost white) light grey.
The Second third continues with the same flavor profile with the addition of some cedar and an occasional mild spice. The burn is still great and the ash is holding for about one and a half inches before falling. There is some dark spotting on the firm light grey ash. The strength is still a solid medium. T
By the beginning of last third, I am detecting some delicious coffee bean and cocoa undertones. I am really digging the flavor transition and my only complaint is there is only about an inch and half of the cigar remaining. The burn and draw do not falter and I finish the Davidoff Colorado Claro Special R in just under 60 minutes. Although I wish there was more, I feel satisfied and content.
Conclusion
This is a stunning, fantastic smoke from Davidoff. I feel it was the perfect choice to pair with coffee in the late morning or early afternoon and I found it extremely satisfying. While the MSRP not inexpensive, I feel it is worth the money. In conclusion, I am going to give the Davidoff Colorado Claro Special R a Stogie Geek Rating of “Box Worthy”. It may very well be worth buying two boxes, one to smoke and one to age. I would love to see what a few more years can do to this stick.
