Wrapper: Habano Jalapa
Binder: Indonesian
Filler: Viso Esteli
Ninfa Double Perfecto: 7 x 33 (with closed ends)
Price: $5.99
The Crux Ninfamaniac was one of the first offerings by newcomer Crux Cigar Company. The Ninfamaniac is a 33 ring gauge Ninfa in a Double Perfecto format. The company was started by two retailers – Joel Rogers and Jeff Haugen.
Many people came out of the show talking about Crux. To me this was more of an issue of style versus substance. This cigar started out kind of dull with some pretty generic woody notes. As Paul says the flavors do pick up as notes of coffee, citrus, and baker’s spice come around. However the flavors didn’t really get interesting until the start of the second half. I found the last third to have too much of the baker’s spice and it overwhelmed the blend.
This cigar started out mild to medium in strength and moved to medium. The body also started out mild to medium, but by the end was closer to medium to full.
Many people are critical of 60 ring cigars because they are too big. Here I found the opposite extreme. At it’s peak, there were some good flavors from this cigar, but there are better $5.99 options out there that don’t go to the extreme. This is a try one.
