Background
I recently stumbled across a cigar in my local B&M that I had not heard of yet. The Perdomo 2 Limited Edition 2008 Maduro caught my attention due to the oily sheen of it’s dark wrapper and the elegant band. The smell of the tobacco from the foot of the cigar greeted me with that familiar Nicaraguan sweetness I have grown to enjoy and respect. At less than $6.00 for the Robusto, I immediately grabbed a few.
From the Perdomo website I obtained the following information about the cigar and its history. The Perdomo 2 was originally released in 1999 and re-released in 2008. The blend uses five year old Nicaraguan tobacco and is available in both a Natural and Maduro wrapper. Four boxed pressed vitola’s are available. These are the Robusto (5 x 50), Torpedo (6 1/4 x 54), Epicure (5 1/2 x 54), and Churchill(6 7/8 x 50).
For this review I snagged the Robusto (A personal favorite of mine) in the maduro wrapper.

Review
The pre-light aroma has that familiar Nicaraguan sweetness I mentioned earlier with hints of coffee and pepper. After thoroughly toasting the foot, the initial draw greets me with a large amount of smoke. Initial flavors do not disappointing and included coffee, cocoa, and some black pepper. The draw is fantastic and the cigar pours smoke. After the first half inch or so, the pepper subsides but the coffee and cocoa flavors continue. I am also detecting some hints of oak. The finish is long and creamy but I am experiencing a little harshness. All the same I am enjoying the cigar thus far and find myself slowing down so I can enjoy it more. This stick is delicious!
The Second third continues without any variation in flavors and burn. I am enjoying the large clouds of white smoke that billow out after every draw. The ash is holding for about 3/4 of an inch before falling and the stick remains cool.
During the last third of the cigar, I begin to detect hints of pepper again. The other flavors remain the same but that underlying harshness is picking up a bit. In all fairness, the harshness is subtle compared to other cigars at this price point and it doesn’t prevent me from finishing this delicious morsel in under an hour.
Conclusion
I would give the Perdomo 2 Limited Edition 2008 Maduro a rating of 3.0 “The Fiver” on the StogieGeeks rating scale. If you enjoy cigars with dark maduro flavors then give this stick a try. It is inexpensive enough to enjoy while working around the yard and complex enough to focus on while sipping your favorite single malt scotch. Honestly, this cigar really surprised me. I have heard mixed things about Perdomo as a brand and bought based on visual and olfactory senses only. This is something that doesn’t always steer me in the right direction. But after smoking several of these, I recommend you give them a try too.
