I don’t usually make New Years resolutions but instead try take some time to reflect on the year gone past. As part of this annual process, I took some time to look back at the cigars I enjoyed in 2011. I often refer to myself to a Maduro whore. To be specific, I enjoy dark, rich cigars and in the past, I have bought a fair variety of brands that meet this description. But 2011 was different and this was surprising to me.
Many of the cigars I relentlessly sought after in 2011 were cigars that were more on the medium side of flavor, body, and strength. Such purchases included the AVO Limited Edition 85th Anniversary, a seven year old box of Paul Garmirian Reserva Exclusiva, Ashton Heritage Churchill’s from 2005, Tatuaje Brown Label Noella’s from 2008, Cabaiguan Guapos 46 Natural, more than one box of Padilla 1932 Signature from 2008, Tatuaje 7th Capa Especial, J. Grotto Serie Reserve, and 2001 Partagas 8-9-8 Varnished. All of these were fantastic smokes in their own way.
While I still enjoy rich flavored darker tobacco, my palate is changing and I am finding myself enjoying the subtle nuances in flavors and finish that milder cigars can offer. Sure I still enjoy my Liga Privada Flying Pigs and Arturo Fuente Anejo’s but I find myself reaching for such cigars less often and the inside of my humidor is slowly becoming a lighter shade of brown.
Just thought I would share. Happy New Year!
