Fred Rewey of the Nomad Cigar Company recently gifted us a sampler of the Nomad cigar line. I took down two different vitola’s from the five pack. These were the 4 5/8 x 54 Vagabond (Perfecto) and the 6 x 52 Navigator (Torpedo). Both sticks performed perfectly with what I consider to be a perfect draw that supplied copious amounts of smoke. I found the blend to be very earthly with some leather and pepper on the retro. The finish was long! Some subtle burnt caramel sweetness was present but faded as the burn line progressed and I found the stick becoming creamier (especially the Perfecto) towards the end of the second third. What I enjoyed most about the profile was it held up against the Glen Livet 12 Year I was enjoying. Some Scotch can be difficult to pair in my experience and I was pleasantly surprised with the pairing on this occasion. I would reach for a “Fiver” again, especially on the Perfecto. I do think there may be some aging potential there too, so it may very well become “Box Worthy” for me.
