Because of high taxes, several manufacturers have released cigars for the New York market to give customers incentives to purchase from a New York retailer. These cigars have had mixed results It was late in 2011 when Altadis USA released the Montecristo New York Connoisseur Edition, and this cigar was a true game changer in my book. It made me rethink not only New York only cigars, but Altadis’ Montecristo brand as a whole.
This is not your father’s Montecristo. When I proclaimed this cigar my #2 Cigar of 2012 on Cigar Coop, I wrote:
The flavors to the Montecristo New York were nothing short of amazing. The flavor notes delivered by this cigar include: dried fruit, chocolate, baker’s spice, raisin, cream, natural tobacco, citrus, and red pepper. The flavors are robust and full-bodied. The cigar is also medium to full in strength.
This assessment remained true to form. The flavors continue to get more mature as age is being very kind to this cigar. While I did have some burn issues early, these now burn and draw like a champ.
This cigar is closing in on Oasis status. The latest smoke got it closer than it ever has been. In the meantime, bring on Chuck.
