We did a detailed pre-release assessment on Cigar Coop of the RyJ.
The RyJ is a soon to be released all-Nicaraguan puro being added to Altadis USA’s Romeo y Julieta line. It marks the first time a Nicaraguan puro has been added to this line. It joins the Juan Lopez as Altadis’ second Nicaraguan puro this year.
The RyJ provides notes of red pepper, earth, chocolate, and citrus. The citrus notes start out on the sweet side and are more subtle. As the cigar progresses, the citrus turns more acidic – inferring to me some youngness with this cigar. The cigar is definitely one of the bolder Romeo y Julieta’s I had. It has medium to full strength and the flavors start off medium to full-bodied and progress to full-bodied. I do think some more age might mellow this. The burn and draw were excellent.
There was still enough to keep me interested with this blend. It’s definitely a cigar I will keep on my radar.
