Wrapper: Nicaraguan Sun Grown Criollo ’98
Binder: Double Binder – Sancti Spiritus (Ecuador)
Filler: Nicaraguan
Toro: 5 7/8 x 52
Price: $9.25 (Famous Smoke Shop)
On Episode 64 of Stogie Geeks, K.C. Johnson of L’Atelier Imports discussed this cigar. It was a cigar that was only made available to those retailers that placed an order a the L’Atelier booth at IPCPR. We also did a deep pre-release review of this on Cigar Coop. The name of this cigar translates to “Extension of the Root”. This refers to the fact that the Sancti Spirtus leaf that is used on the for L’Atelier line as a wrapper is used as a binder here.
The cigar really felt like where the original core like L’Atelier left off, yet told its own story. The Extension de la Racine a complex flavor profile consisting of notes of pepper, natural tobacco, caramel, grass, and toasted marshmallow. The cigar balances its sweet notes with the spice and classic cigar flavors perfectly. Flavors and strength fall into the medium to full range. The construction was excellent.
I did not rate this as this was a pre-release sample from IPCPR, however this cigar has all of the makings of being box-worthy by L’Atelier.
