This is the 2014 realase of the vaunted short run line from Ernesto Perez Carillo. I have LOVED the previous 4 releases of this line, especially in the robusto size, but I have to say that I had mixed feelings when I heard this years annoucement. The excitement as still there to see what he was going to do, but I was a little skeptical when I heard that they were all going to be large ring gauge smokes.
That being said I happy to say that this smoke is very good. The earthy notes are pleasantly complimented by a subtle sweetness. There is little to no spice and pepper, but the wood notes are very pronounced and there is a subtle nutty flavor. I found this smoke to be medium in strength, but to be surprisingly full flavored. I still am not a huge fan of 60 rings, so I say it is worth a fiver to me. But, for all of you large ring guage smokers out there you should be excited, this may rank as high as box worthy for you.
