The G.A.R. Red by George Rico is a line of value-priced Nicaraguan puros by George Rico that was released late last year. Rico, and Gran Habano have quietly established themselves as leaders in being able to produce high quality cigars in that sweet value-priced range of $5 to $7. For this 6 x 60 Nicaraguan puro, it sells for $5.00.
I didn’t find this to be the most complex cigar, but the flavors delivered were solid. This cigar is going to deliver notes of earth, light fruit, and spice. Perhaps the most unique feature of this cigar was a nice char taste that was present in the background. The flavors are medium-bodied. This also wasn’t a nicotine bomb. This cigar starts out mild to medium before progressing to medium strength. Burn and draw were excellent.
This cigar was a nice surprise and delivered a very nice smoking experience. I also didn’t find the big ring a negative. If you want a big ring gauge cigar that isn’t overpowering at a good price, check this one out. It’s worth a fiver.
