El Rey de los Habanos was originally released in 2005 and was the first national release by Don Pepin Garcia. About three years ago, the line had been discontinued. The line is now making a comeback – this time with a new blend that will be exclusively sold and distributed by The Pipe and Pint in Greensboro, North Carolina.

I was really surprised how much this cigar kept to the character of the original El Rey de los Habanos blend. This delivers nots of wood, natural tobacco, pepper, and baker’s spice. The new El Rey de los Habanos is slightly dialed back in sweetness from the original, but it still has a similar profile. The flavors are mostly medium to full-bodied moving to full toward the end. This won’t be an overpowering Pepin cigar as it has medium strength.

I’ve always loved this line. The new El Rey de los Habanos picks right up where the original left off. This is a box worthy cigar.
