Wrapper: Habano Ecuador Maduro
Binder: Ecuadorian
Filler: Nicaraguan
Country of Origin: Nicaragua (Tabacalera Cubanacan)
Corona Gorda: 5 5/8 x 46
The Soneros line is blended by Cubanacan’s Master Blender Omar González-Alemán. Prior to come to Cubanacan, Omar managed the La Corona factory in Cuba. Soneros is positioned as his blend that that captures the “flavors, aromas and blends of the past” from his time at La Corona.
Soneros was introduced in 2013, and the line extension of the Corona Gorda followed in 2014.
This was a really unique flavor profile and I attribute this to a different wrapper/binder combination. There is a mix of wood, cedar, and black pepper early on. As the cigar progresses some cocoa notes do emerge and by the last third they are more prominent. The flavors are medium strength and medium bodied.
While I didn’t find this “Cubanesque”, I did find this enjoyable. It’s definitely worth a fiver.
