Interview: Nick Gervais, & David Rivera of Martinez Hand Rolled Cigars Factory

Nick Gervais | Owner/Founder

A Cigar Club For Everyone.

Each month you’ll receive some of the finest handmade premium cigars personally chosen by our staff for you to enjoy. Our staff has over 20 years of cigar experience, so we like to think we know what we’re doing!

The cigars chosen for each monthly box will help newcomers determine what they like, novice/experienced smokers to expand their palate, and expose the “expert” to cigar brands they may have never smoked before.

Our Owner and Founder, Nick Gervais, truly feels that cigars bring people together from all walks of life. All personal views and differences are set aside, and the cigar becomes the common ground people strive for. The cigar world thrives on the concept of community, so he wanted to create a club that embraces the entire community of cigar smokers at an exceptional value. From there, A Cigar Club For Everyone was born.

David Martinez | Director of Sales

As New York’s oldest cigar factory, Martinez Cigar Factory has been providing premium cigars for the last 46 years. Martinez Cigars has made it a priority to use nothing but the best quality tobacco, along with expert craftsmanship that their customers expect every time they smoke a Martinez Cigar.

As a cigar roller in his native country of The Dominican Republic, Antonio Martinez came to this country to follow his dream of opening his own cigar factory in New York City. In 1974, Martinez Cigar Factory opened its doors in the Chelsea area of Manhattan. They continue to produce cigars from this original location. When Mr. Martinez decided to retire, his son Jesus took over the company and continues the traditions that his father established. Those traditions are still a big part of the company’s success today.

“I’m sure that a Martinez Cigar is one of the best cigars you will ever smoke.” Jesus Martinez

“The Band Man”- Every time I smoke a cigar, I have a ritual. Going in I look at the cigar, the construction, color, smell the foot, taste the cap, I gently caress it in my fingers. Then I cut it, most time it will be a Deep ‘V’. I then look at the band, I read it, I study the artwork and fonts of any symbols or numbers, I imagine the person rolling this cigar and then putting the finishing touch of the band… I collect the bands and keep them as gifts of appreciation from the Tobacco growers, and procurers of said cigar. I become one with this cigar, I toast it, I wait patiently for the filler, binder, wrapper to ignite, the first hint of aromas fly through the air like an Aaron Judge Home Run…. Beautiful.
