Price: $8.79
This cigar was assessed in depth on Cigar Coop.
The E.P. Carrillo Medalla D’Platino is a limited production shop exclusive for Federal Cigar in New Hampshire. It is the second release of three limited production lonsdale-sized cigars that E.P. Carrillo is producing exclusively for Federal Cigar following last year’s Medalla D’Oro which was based off the Short Run 2012 blend. Each of the three lonsdales share common blend components, but contain a different wrapper. The lonsdales are noted for their foil sleeve covering the top portion of the cigar. The Medalla D’Platino features a Habano Corojo 99 wrapper – a wrapper that E.P. Carrillo seems to be more with in 2014. A Connecticut Broadleaf installment of this series called Noche D’Oro will round out the series.
This cigar is going to deliver notes of dried fruit, natural tobacco, grain, and pepper. The last third will have an interesting smoky flavor. This one is going to be stronger and fuller than the E.P. Carrillo Medalla D’Oro. This is a case where it shows how a wrapper can change a blend – and this blend still delivers.
E.P. Carrillo seems to be using the Ecuadorian Corojo leaf on several blends (INCH C-99 and the E.P. Carrillo Cabinet). To me this is the best release with that wrapper by E.P. Carrillo – a box worthy cigar.
