Interview: Omar de Frias

In this episode, we talked to Omar de Frias, the founder of Fratello Cigars. Fratello Cigars bursted on the cigar scene on the eve of the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show where their first cigar, Fratello was given to attendees of an FDA Seminar. The cigar was extremely well-received and provided a nice launchpad for de Frias. Since then, de Frias has hit the road with his “retailer countdown” – building his brand in a true grass roots fashion. As we learned, de Frias is a passionate cigar enthusiast who is involved in all operations of his company. No doubt, de Frias is a rising star in the industry, and we will talked to him about his background and what he has in store for Fratello Cigars. Our featured cigar of the week was his Fratello Toro.

Cigar Events: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

We all know that cigar events are a unique differentiator for the cigar industry. Cigar Events often allow consumers to have direct interaction with the people behind the brand. They also provide the opportunity to buy at discounted rates, get swag, and other limited stuff. That being said, we’ve been to some events that stand out above others – and some which would be the Stogie Geeks equivalent of Lawn Mulch.

In tonight’s episode, the Stogie Geeks panel gives their thoughts on Cigar Events and discuss the following points:

  • What contributes to a great event?
  • When does an event turn bad?
  • Does a cigar personality need to be in attendance to have a good event?
  • Are there cases where a cigar personality is not a good fit for an event?
  • Should cigar events have a cover charge?
