This cigar was recently assessed in depth on Cigar Coop.
This is a small batch, retail exclusive that went to Two Guys Smoke Shop in New Hampshire. It was made by Hammer + Sickle as a commemorative cigar for the 2014 Sochi Olympics. 100 boxes of ten were produced. Not much about the cigar is known blend-wise. Eric Hanson, head of Hammer + Sickle’s parent company Klin Groupe says there are nine tobaccos in the blend. We also know the cigar was blended by Davidoff’s Henke Kelner.
Two words – Flavor bomb.
The start to the Hammer + Sickle Sochi Limited Edition 2014 provided a mix of wood, natural tobacco sweetness along with some background pepper and grass notes. Somewhere between the five and ten percent mark, the flavors really popped out. A mixed fruit flavor joined the natural tobacco in the forefront. These flavors all balance each other. The second half has a wonderful sweet spice. The flavors start out medium-bodied and progress to medium to full-bodied. The strength is medium.
Right now this has to rank as one of my top cigars of 2014. I almost pulled the trigger on Oasis level, but want to see what time does to this cigar. Right now, this cigar is a grand slam home run.
