This cigar was reviewed in depth on Cigar Coop.
The J. Grotto Anniversary is a Cigar we broke news on here on Stogie Geeks. It is significant for a few reasons:
1) It is Ocean State Cigars’ first Connecticut Broadleaf
2) It is the strongest, fullest cigar in the Ocean State Cigars portfolio to date.
3) It is the first collaboration with Phil Zanghi and Debonaire Cigars
4) It commemorates owner Paul Joyal’s parents’ 65th wedding anniversary and Joyal and his wife’s 30th wedding anniversary.
The J. Grotto Anniversary will be launched in four sizes at the 2014 IPCPR Trade Show:
As advertised this is a full strength, full-bodied cigar. You will really feel this cigar’s power and depth on the retro-hale – and toward the end it really kicks it into high gear. By no means just a strength bomb, this Broadleaf has some incredible flavors. It has that sweet rich espresso syrup flavor. There is a slight cherry/citrus sweetness I got as well. I also detected notes of white pepper and earth. This cigar will also deliver plenty of flavor transitions.
The construction quality is excellent and this is reflected on the burn and draw.
Since this is pre-release I did not provide an assessment rating or score, but the way the pre-releases have smoked, this has all of the making of a Box Worthy or even Chuck Norris rating.
