Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Chavala: 5 x 50
Price: $4.95
The Big Payback will offer a value-priced smoke with three vitolas ranging in price from $4.95 to $6.95. Perhaps more signifiant are two other areas of uncharted territory for the brand – Room 101’s first Nicaraguan puro, and that it also introduces the brand to the 70 ring gauge market segment.
The Big Payback is the 14th blend to be released from Matt Booth’s brand. In announcing this cigar Booth said, “over the past few hers, the Room 101 Brand has come to be a success in a myriad of dimensions. Now I propose we give back to those who helped us get there in the first place. The cigars in this series are priced well below where they should be. This is a Payback of a different sort – my payback to you for the support and dedication over the years.”
With the Big Payback I picked up notes of earth, pepper, and a slight cream note in the background. The oak becomes a cedar sweet-spice later in the smoke. There definitely is an increase in spice toward the end. The creamy note in the background helps keep most of this cigar experience on the smooth side.
The flavors start out medium and go to medium to full-bodied. The strength pretty much is medium. I did require a few more touch-ups, but no major signs of Paul Syndrome.
I think based on the price and the experience, I would say this is worth a fiver.
