Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Dominican Habano
Filler: Dominican and Other Central American Tobaccos
Country of Origin:: Dominican Republic
P555: 5 x 55 (Perfecto)
Price: $7.99 – $9.99 (for line)
This cigar was assessed in depth on Cigar Coop.
The J. Grotto Anniversary is the fourth line released by Paul Joyal’s Ocean State Cigars was significant for a few reasons:
1) It is Ocean State Cigars’ first Connecticut Broadleaf
2) It is the strongest, fullest cigar in the Ocean State Cigars portfolio to date.
3) It is the first collaboration with Phil Zanghi and Debonaire Cigars
4) It commemorates owner Paul Joyal’s parents’ 65th wedding anniversary and Joyal and his wife’s 30th wedding anniversary.
The J. Grotto Anniversary P555 delivers notes of cocoa, black pepper, and earth. At times the coffee morphs to an espresso syrup and then to a cocoa powder. There were also some background nut flavors. While the strength dialed back on the J. Grotto Anniversary since I smoked the pre-release, this is still a full strength, full-bodied cigar.
Overall, this is the best line of Ocean State Cigars (and they have some good ones). It is a box worthy cigar and worth checking out.
