Wrapper: Brazilian Magico Cubano
Binder/Filler: Tobaccos from Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Pennsylvania.
Five and a Half Truth: 5 1/2 x 54
Price: $8.25
This cigar was assessed in depth on Cigar Coop.
This is the fourth blend from Jason Holly’s Viva Republica. The highlight of this cigar is the Brazilian Magico Cubano wrapper. This is a cuban seed wrapper that is a rare seed varietal. This is the first Viva Republica cigar to use a Brazilian wrapper.
The banding to the Viva Republica Propaganda is edgy and contemporary, but it has some classic origins. Holly told Cigar Coop that the red, black, white, and gold color scheme pay homage to one of his favorite cigars, the Fuente Fuente OpusX
.
I had smoked a pre-releae of the short robusto Disinformation (4 x 54). Since then, this is a blend that has really matured, and it is one that shines in the 5 1/2 x 54 Robusto. The cigar has notes of coffee, chocolate, cedar, and black pepper. There is also a lemon sweetness that morphs to more of a dried fruit. There is also a creamy undertone. The strength and body was well-balanced at medium to full.
Overall a fantastic smoke. A very different cigar that anything I’ve had out of La Aurora. This is a box worthy cigar.
