This cigar was assessed in depth on Cigar Coop.
At the 2014 IPCPR Trade Show, Rocky Patel Premium Cigars launched four new cigar lines. One of those lines is called the Rocky Patel Prohibition. For the past few years, company President Rocky Patel has invested many time and resources in the crusade to defend cigar rights. The name of this cigar is a reference to the real threat of regulation now staring the cigar industry in the face. The Prohibition line consists of two distinct blends – one containing a Connecticut Broadleaf and another containing a San Andres Mexican. Today we take a look at a pre-release of the Rocky Patel Prohibition San Andres.
I don’t believe Rocky Patel has done a lot with San Andres, but I was real surprised at this cigar. The first third delivers a sweet, earthy, and coffee flavor with notes of pepper on the finish. The retro-hale had some spice as well as almost a espresso syrup sweetness. I also picked up notes of nut, white pepper, and cream in the second third. The last third has more pepper with earth and coffee in the background. The strength and body balance each other very well – starting out medium to full in the first half and progressing to full in the second half. The construction was excellent.
While I didn’t put a rating on a prerelease, this cigar has all of the makings for a winner.
